Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 July 2026
TempoTutor is a private teaching app. A music teacher runs a Studio; students join by invitation only and study lessons, materials, and songs, and everyone communicates in chat threads. This policy explains what personal data TempoTutor handles and why.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Socraates Technologies Ltd, 21 Beach Green, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5YG, United Kingdom. Questions about your data: info@socraates.com.
What we collect
- Your display name and email address (used to sign you in and identify you within your Studio).
- A device token stored on your device, which keeps you signed in.
- Chat messages you send in your Studio's threads.
- Media and documents you upload or that are shared with you: photos, audio recordings, and PDF documents.
- Lesson and schedule information: your lessons, repertoire, and lesson times.
- App-usage analytics (teacher accounts only): a pseudonymous signal — a random app-instance identifier and a few event names (such as "registered" and "studio activated") — used to measure how teachers discover and set up TempoTutor. It never includes your name, email, messages, or lesson content, and we do not collect analytics on student devices.
TempoTutor has no self-signup: you can only join a Studio using a one-time invitation from the teacher.
How we use it
We use your data to provide your Studio's features: signing you in, delivering chat, lessons, songs, scheduling, and push notifications. On teacher accounts only, we also use analytics to measure the effectiveness of our own sign-up campaigns — for example, whether a teacher who installed from one of our adverts went on to set up a Studio. We do not show advertising inside the app, and we do not sell your personal data.
Who processes it on our behalf
We use a small number of infrastructure providers purely to run the service:
- Microsoft Azure: database and file storage (media is held as files; the database stores only references and text).
- Resend: sending sign-in and invitation emails.
- Expo and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivering push notifications to your device.
- Google Analytics for Firebase (teacher accounts only): measuring app usage and the effectiveness of our sign-up campaigns. Google processes this pseudonymous usage data on our behalf; where we link it to our advertising to measure campaign results, Google may also process it as described in Google's own privacy terms.
Except for the ad-measurement analytics described above, these providers process data only to deliver those functions for us, not for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you are a member of a Studio. When you leave or your account is deleted, your identifying details are removed; messages you posted may remain in the Studio's history under an anonymised label so the teacher's teaching record stays intact.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account and personal data at any time from within the app: open your profile and choose "Delete my account". If you have uninstalled the app, email info@socraates.com from your account's email address and we will action it. For access or correction, email us. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), ico.org.uk.
This is a private, invitation-only app used by a small teaching studio. This policy is current as of the date above and may be updated as the app develops; material changes will be reflected here.
